Stars and Stripes, a two-man show featuring Steve Metzger and Roman Pastucha, both of which are instructors at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, can be viewed at Seven Degrees gallery in Laguna Beach at a reception on Thursday, August 1 from 6 PM- 10 PM during Laguna Beach Art Walk.
The show will preview a body of latest work by the both Steve and Roman. Steve is working on pieces that incorporate use of form and color by juxtaposing both stripes and portraits of notable celebrity.  The monochromatic facial paintings are larger than life and take on a charged "in your face" iconographic appearance without being overtly romanticized or overly sentimental. The stripes force the viewer to look at the pieces as form rather than simply 'seeing ' cliched celebrities. The viewer is forced to rediscover common imagery.

Roman will be showing his oil paintings, some of which are on loan from private collections here in Southern California. He will also include a small collection of very personal works, all oil on panel. Roman was an artist in residence at Seven Degrees for 3 years, where he developed his large scale tale format.
Roman continues his cinematic and narrative driven imagery, pushing paint into rich color and visual storytelling traditions.
