Take Part in Laguna Beach’s AlertOC Test on Thursday, Sept. 24

Disasters sometimes occur quickly, forcing evacuations and road closures to neighborhoods with little advanced warning. AlertOC, Orange County’s mass notification system, is a critical link for residents to immediately learn of any required actions, such as evacuating during an imminent fire.

On Thursday, September 24th between 9:00a.m. - 9:30a.m., Laguna Beach residents will receive test emergency alerts to their mobile device. The test will replicate a large scale, regional emergency requiring thousands of people to be notified simultaneously across Orange County. This is the 10th annual regional test of the system and will include 21 participating cities.

“We should all take responsibility to prepare ourselves for any emergency or hazard that may strike,” said Brendan Manning, Laguna Beach Emergency Operations Coordinator. “A critical piece of that is ensuring access to information. We urge residents and businesses to sign up for emergency notification systems like AlertOC and Nixle to ensure accurate and timely access to critical information.”

Residents can do their part to prepare for emergencies by registering for AlertOC. The time is now to self-register cell phone numbers and e-mail addresses to be a part of the regional test. For more information or to register alternate phone numbers or e-mail addresses, visit AlertOC.org.
