Thursday's Light Rain to Give Way to Heavy Weekend Storm

Raindrops will be falling on some people's heads today, and again throughout the weekend, with Saturday shaping up as wettest day as a pair of storm fronts move through the area.

Chances of rain are expected to increase as the day wears on, with roughly a 50 percent chance of measurable precipitation tonight into tomorrow, and a roughly 40 percent chance Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

"Most of this will be light," NWS meteorologist Kathy Hoxsie told City News Service.

She said much of the impending rain could be just sprinkles, bringing roughly a one-tenths of an inch of rain in the mountains, and a few hundredths of an inch in the valleys.

By Saturday, however, the rain is expected to get more intense, along with the possibility of thunderstorms. According to the NWS, there's about a 75 percent to 80 percent chance of precipitation Saturday. Hoxie said there's a chance of a quarter-inch to three-quarters of an inch of rain, more in the mountains.

"We do have a slight chance of thunderstorms that day," Hoxsie said. "That would liven things up a bit."

Lighter rain is expected on Sunday, and precipitation could linger into Monday in mountain areas.

Hoxsie said the area should then be dry through about Wednesday of next week, but there's a potentially bigger storm on the horizon that could arrive by late in the week.
