Ava August on 'American Idol' Top 24 Solo, Duet With Josh Groban

DANA POINT, CA —Powerful, emotional, moving. Those are the words the top judges at American Idol used to describe Dana Hills High School freshman Ava August as she took to the stage and performed in the top 24 on "American Idol" on Monday.

August is up for one of 16 remaining spots in this season's show which will be unveiled in a future show.

As the youngest contestant on American Idol season 19, August's voice resonated with honesty during her rendition of the pop sensation "Driver's License."

Her duet with Josh Groban showed a deep connection with "Both Sides Now" rendering Katie Perry nearly speechless while Lionel Richie declared her talent far beyond her years. The song earned her a standing ovation from the panel of judges.

"If you're singing like this at 15, you'll be terrifying when you have your driver's license," Richie said.

"Let me just remind everyone that she is not only a singer but plays guitar and writes her own songs," Perry added for the benefit of voters.

Though the results will not be announced until a later date, Tuesday morning August spoke with her fans over social media. She thanked them for their support.

"Thank you, everyone!!!!!! I can’t believe this all just happened!! Thank you Josh Groban for allowing me to grace the stage with you to sing Joni Mitchell’s classic song Both Sides," she wrote on Facebook. "... I will always cherish this moment. Thank you @oliviarodrigo for writing Driver’s License... it’s such a relatable song for me. I loved getting the chance to perform it."
