Bring Home Kai: Reward Offered For Lost Dog In Dana Point

DANA POINT, CA — There is nothing more distressing to a dog owner than to return home and discover your pet has escaped. The 4th of July is one of the biggest days of the year for pets to flee, confused and scared by the sound of exploding fireworks.

This year, Kai went missing between the high school and Monarch Beach's Stonehill community, according to his owner.

"He's a Pomeranian mix, and a super cool dude," Matt Heisler told Patch. Kai was last seen at roughly 8:15 a.m. on July 4. One week later, there is still no sign of him.

The family has done everything they can think of to find their pup.

"We've been to all the local shelters, have posted on social media sites, and have even left dirty clothes outside to remind Kai of their scent, should he happen by.

"We have knocked on doors, made flyers, hiked into the canyon, and have still not given up hope that he was found by someone, and maybe someone is taking care of him," Heisler said. Now, they are offering a $1000 reward in hopes that someone does the right thing.

"We do have some good news," he said. "We have evidence that supports that a good Samaritan may have picked up our Kai for safekeeping, and not a predator scooping him up."

The reward will be honored with Kai's safe return home, with no questions asked.
