Dana Point Yacht Club Takes A New Tack Teaching Boating [Watch]

The "friendliest yacht club" has open registration for top notch instructors, volunteering time to give members the basics on boating.

DANA POINT, CA — The Dana Point Yacht Club has introduced Sunday workshops to teach members the basics of boating. The DPYC is offering sessions this spring in a series of five sessions.

"Top notch instructors, world class racers and legendary Club members are volunteering their time to "pay it forward" and give fellow members this unique opportunity to learn the basics of boating and get on the open water," they said.

A nominal fee of $75 includes breakfast, lunch, material fees and all five workshops.

There are two more sessions in March, and two in April, though space is limited according to the website.

"Founded in 1952, we started with 25 members and are currently almost 500 members strong, and growing," the Yacht Club stated on their website. "The common bond for those in the DPYC is created by their love of the ocean, a deep sense tradition, fairness & competition in boating; and their genuine love for the community in which they live and the beautiful Dana Point Harbor."

Dana Point Yacht Club has been Southern California Yachting Association's ‘Yacht Club of the Year' numerous times, according to the club.
