Infant Among Those Rescued From Surf in Dana Point

Light on helicopter helps lifeguards in rescue Tuesday evening.

Lifeguards rescued a man, a boy and an infant who became caught in high surf as they were exploring the headlands at Dana Point on Tuesday evening.

Lifeguards were called to the area at 8:38 p.m. and with the aid of a light from a helicopter, were able to bring the three ashore safely, said Sgt.John Whitman of the Orange County Sheriff's Harbor Patrol.

The trio probably underestimated the surf, but lifeguards were able to walk them up to the stairs that lead to Dana Point, Whitman said.
