Surf Advisory Issued for Dana Point, Rain in Forecast for Weekend

Breakers of between 5 and 7 feet are expected at west-facing beaches, with maximum sets of 10 feet at some locations.

High surf will pound the Southland coast on Friday on the eve of a bout of light rainfall coupled with a cool down, National Weather Service forecasters said.

They said the surf will be building Friday morning and peak from Friday afternoon through Saturday evening. Breakers of between 5 and 7 feet are expected at west-facing beaches at the height of the event, with maximum sets of 10 feet at some locations.

A high surf advisory will be in effect from 3 p.m. Friday until 3 p.m. Sunday in Orange County.

Rain is in Saturday’s forecast, but NWS forecasters said it would be light, perhaps totaling a 10th of an inch in L.A. County.

The NWS forecast mostly cloudy skies in Los Angeles County on Friday, sunny skies in Orange County, and highs of 61 in San Clemente; 62 on Mount Wilson, in Newport Beach and Laguna Beach; 64 in Palmdale and Lancaster; 65 in Avalon; 66 at LAX; 67 in Irvine; 68 in Saugus, Fullerton and Anaheim; 69 in Long Beach and Mission Viejo; 70 in downtown L.A., Burbank, Woodland Hills and Pasadena; and 71 in Yorba Linda and San Gabriel.

Saturday’s temperatures will be several degrees lower than Friday’s, according to an NWS forecast. Downtown L.A., for instance, will go from a high of 70 today to 62 Saturday. Mount Wilson will go from 62 to 51.

Temperatures will begin climbing under partly cloudy skies Sunday.
