Triscuit Recovering After Something Tried To Take A Bite

This harbor seal pup is NOT a stuffed animal! She was rescued by in Dana Point earlier this week, and is now recovering in Laguna Beach.

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — Triscuit was almost named Rebel, after the group of women who found her in Dana Point. According to the Pacific Marine Mammal Center, Triscuit was found in a parking lot weighing in at a mere 23 pounds.

"She was found with multiple bite marks," the PMMC spokeswoman told us. A photo crew, Rebel Road Studios, discovered the pup and assisted with her rescue.

According to PMMC spokesperson Krysta Higuchi, the seal pup was in the lot near where the staff was filming a citizen science and sighting video.

"It was right next to our truck," Higuchi said. Though bystanders wanted to guide the pup back toward the beach and water, that wasn't the best course of action, she said.

If a harbor seal, especially a pup, beaches itself, there is usually something wrong, she explained. It is always best to call for help, through the PMMC.

According to the Mammal Center, Triscuit is healing. Her wounds were most likely a few days old when she was found. At the Marine Mammal Center, Triscuit will be able to feed and heal, swim and bond with other seals and sea lions at the center, as well as to pack on some extra pounds. The rehabilitation process could take nearly a quarter of a year, she said.

There are currently two harbor seals and eight sea lions at the PMMC being rehabilitated by staff, they said.

"PMMC almost named her Rebel, but Triscuit will do," they said over Instagram.
