92-Year-Old Cancer Survivor Completes Marathon, Breaks Record
Harriette Thompson, 92, of North Carolina became the oldest woman to finish a marathon at the popular Rock 'n' Roll Marathon in San Diego.

A 92-year-old runner from North Carolina made history in San Diego today when she became the oldest woman to complete a marathon. Harriette Thompson finished the popular race on Sunday in just over 7 hours and 24 minutes, according to NBC 7 News.
Multiple media outlets reported the nonagenarian from Charlotte was smiling as she crossed the finish line. Thompson, who is a two-time cancer survivor, ran the race in honor of her son, a Navy Captain also battling cancer.
Thompson, who started running marathons when she was 76, told EyeonSports her favorite moment of the race was crossing the finish line.

“That’s the best time,” Thompson said.
According to Runners World, Gladys Burrill, 92, previously held the record, running the 2010 Honolulu Marathon in just over nine hours.
