Amazon HQ2: Los Angeles Only CA Finalist For Amazon Headquarters

Sacramento, San Francisco and San Diego are out of the running for Amazon HQ2, the company's second headquarters in North America.

CALIFORNIA – Only one California city made the top 20 cut for Amazon's second headquarters, the company announced Thursday.

Amazon reviewed 238 proposals from cities across the United States, Canada and Mexico to host HQ2, the company's second headquarters in North America. Los Angeles is the only city in California to make the company's list of 20 finalists.

Los Angeles County's bid was developed with the help of the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation. Few details about the bid have been released, but the corporation said nine sites were included. San Fernando Valley, Long Beach, Santa Clarita and Pomona were believed to be part of the bid.

"Thank you to all 238 communities that submitted proposals. Getting from 238 to 20 was very tough – all the proposals showed tremendous enthusiasm and creativity," Holly Sullivan of Amazon said in a statement. "Through this process we learned about many new communities across North America that we will consider as locations for future infrastructure investment and job creation."

The Seattle-based company plans to spend more than $5 billion on Amazon HQ2, which will provide as many as 50,000 jobs and support thousands of construction and other related positions.

In the coming months, Amazon plans to work with each candidate to dive deeper into the proposals, request additional information and evaluate the feasibility of a future partnership. A final decision will be made this year, the company said.
