Employee Accused of Assaulting Boss Facing Attempted Murder Charge

Graham Downes, whose firm worked for Hotel La Jolla, was severely injured during the assault, police say.

A 31-year-old man remained behind bars Saturday, suspected of attempted murder, after a fight in the Bankers Hill neighborhood that left his architect employer in critical condition, it was reported.

Police were called to a residence in the 200 block of West Juniper Street near Front Street about 1:10 a.m. Friday and found the two men on the ground on the south side of the street, San Diego police said.

The victim was unconscious, with severe facial and head injuries, police said. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Officers took the other man to police headquarters, police said. He was later booked into jail.

Police did not initially release either man’s name, but U-T San Diego identified the victim as Graham Downes, 56, and suspect as Higinio Salgado, an employee at Downes’ architecture firm.

Graham Downes Architecture is known for its work at several local hotels and restaurants including Bali Hai, Hotel La Jolla and the Hard Rock Hotel, U-T San Diego reported.
