Hang Onto Your Hat, La Jolla: Here Is Weekend Forecast

Umbrella could be handy, too! And ... harsh weather affecting Farmers Insurance Golf Open at Torrey Pines.

A cold, windy and wet winter storm is bearing down on San Diego County this weekend, with the worst of it expected by tomorrow night.

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for the mountains and deserts beginning Sunday at 6 p.m. through Monday at 6 p.m. Wind gusts could reach as high as 85 mph in the mountains.

A high surf advisory is in effect until 10 p.m. today for San Diego coastal areas, warning of strong rip currents and minor beach erosion expected from 8-foot sets.

The snow level could drop to the 3,000-foot level by Monday morning. Up to an inch of rain is forecast for San Diego’s coast and inland valley, as much as three inches in the mountains. Minor urban flooding is likely, according to the weather service.

The expected storm is keeping crews busy clearing out drainage areas.

The Farmers Insurance Open professional golf tournament at Torrey Pines has moved tee times earlier Sunday in an attempt to avoid the harsh weather. (More on that here: Latest From Farmers Open: Choi, Woodland Share Lead.)
