COVID was full of difficulties and hardships, but also sparked creative ideas and solutions. Social distancing guidelines changed how businesses use public spaces. Temporary outdoor spaces popped up throughout the City, allowing for businesses to continue to serve customers. The City of San Diego allowed businesses to easily apply for and obtain Temporary Outdoor Dining permits. Not only have these dining spaces proven to be lifesavers for restaurants and cafes but they are extremely popular with diners who love enjoying San Diego’s nearly perfect weather. The City has extended the Temporary Outdoor dining permits through July of 2022. To qualify for the extension, businesses may need to adhere to new guidelines related to safety.
