La Jolla Symphony Chorus Holds Open Auditions
The La Jolla Symphony Chorus will hold open vocal auditions on August 26th and September 23rd.

LA JOLLA, CA - From La Jolla Symphony Chorus: La Jolla Symphony Chorus (LJSC) offers a season of choral masterworks providing an attractive musical outlet for experienced vocalists. The Chorus will hold open auditions on August 26 and September 23 at Conrad Prebys Music Center on the UC San Diego campus. Alternative dates may be available by private appointment.
Choral repertoire for the 2017-2018 season includes Gloria by Francis Poulenc, Carmina Burana by Carl Orff and Requiem by Gabriel Fauré.
The Chorus is under the direction of Dr. Patrick Walders in his inaugural season with La Jolla Symphony & Chorus. A native of Buffalo, NY, Walders is Director of Choral Studies at San Diego State University and maintains an active career as a professional vocalist, music educator, church musician, clinician, and conductor. Since moving to San Diego in 2011, he and his wife, Katie Walders, founded the San Diego Pro Arte Voices, a professional chamber choir, as well as the annual San Diego Summer Conducting Workshop & Choral Festival held every August.

The Saturday August 26 and September 23 auditions are for all voice parts. Male singers especially are needed. Vocalists with basic-to-advanced music reading skills and a serious commitment to music are encouraged to audition. Membership is open to community singers as well as UC San Diego faculty, staff and students.
The audition process includes vocalization; singing a one-minute, prepared piece/excerpt that can be simple and demonstrates the finest qualities of the voice; basic sight-reading; and conversation. The La Jolla Symphony & Chorus, San Diego’s longest-running and largest community orchestra and chorus, is a non-profit organization celebrating its 63rd season. The 90-person orchestra and 100-person chorus perform groundbreaking orchestral and choral music along with traditional masterworks from the classical repertoire in Mandeville Auditorium on the UC San Diego campus. During the 2017-2018 season, Music Director Steven Schick shares the podium with Choral Director Dr. Patrick Walders and guest conductor Sameer Patel. LJS&C is an affiliate of UC San Diego.
