Memorial Day Weekend Brings Wave of Quarter Million to San Diego Beaches

Monday brought the largest swell of beach-goers, according to city lifeguards.

SAN DIEGO, CA: Cool temperatures and partly cloudy skies did not dampen the plans of nearly a quarter of a million people who visited San Diego beaches from the border to La Jolla this past Memorial Day weekend.

Lifeguards for the city of San Diego estimated 220,100 hit the sand along the city's coastline during the course of the three-day weekend that marks the beginning of the summer season, according to Lee Swanson, spokesman for the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

Monday was the busiest day, with an estimated swell of 91,300 beach-goers. Saturday drew roughly 58,300 people, while Sunday attracted a wave of 70,500.
