Motorcyclist Seriously Injured In University City​ Crash

SAN DIEGO – A 58-year-old man suffered serious injuries when he collided with a car on a University City street, police said Thursday.

The crash happened shortly before 4:25 p.m. Wednesday on Towne Centre Drive just north of Nobel Drive, San Diego police Officer Robert Heims said.

The 58-year-old man was riding his 2016 Harley-Davidson motorcycle southbound in the left lane of Towne Centre Drive when a 24-year-old woman behind the wheel of a 2011 Lexus sedan heading southbound on Towne Centre Drive attempted to make a U-turn from the right lane and crossed into the path of the motorcyclist, Heims said.

The motorcyclist was taken to a hospital for treatment of a fractured pelvis and a fractured femur, which were not believed to be life-threatening, the officer said.

The Lexus driver remained at the scene and cooperated with officers, Heims said, adding that intoxication was not believed to have been a factor in the crash.
