Rady Children's Hospital Ranked High By U.S. News & World Report

The San Diego hospital ranked nationally in nine pediatric specialties.

San Diego, CA — U.S. News & World Report released a list Tuesday of the 50 best children's hospitals in the country, and San Diego's Rady Children's Hospital was included.

The magazine — which publishes some of the most respected rankings on schools, hospitals, jobs and more — used data from a clinical survey of 183 pediatric centers along with a survey of pediatric specialists and sub-specialists. It then ranked the hospitals across 10 specialties — such as cancer and orthopedics — based on these three factors, weighted equally:

  • "Clinical outcomes," such as cancer survival and infection rates
  • "Efficient coordination of care," or how well the hospital complies with industry best practices
  • "Sufficient care-related resources," such as having adequate staff and programs for certain conditions

This year, only 78 children's hospitals were ranked in at least one of the pediatric specialties evaluated.
