‘Spectacular’ Vacation Will Tap $185,000 Lottery Prize, La Jollan Says

Retired homemaker Liisa Orviss bought her winning ticket at Dick's Liquor at 737 Pearl St.

A La Jolla woman who won $184,845 in Friday’s Mega Millions state lottery game said Monday she plans to use some of her winnings to take a vacation with her husband.

Liisa Orviss, who bought her ticket at Dick’s Liquor at 737 Pearl St., said she and her spouse of 38 years haven’t decided where to go yet, but told lottery officials their destination would be somewhere spectacular.

The self-described retired homemaker—her children are now adults—said she buys lottery tickets regularly for a time, and then goes a couple of months without buying any before starting up again.

Lottery officials estimated Tuesday’s jackpot will be around $49 million.
