Woman Found Dead in La Jolla Garage Fire Identified

The fire was reported when a neighbor saw smoke coming from the garage.

La Jolla, CA — Authorities have identified a woman whose body was found last week in a garage fire at a La Jolla home.

Firefighters discovered the body of Ellen Pirok, 90, after extinguishing the fire at 1235 Via Barranca, according to a report from the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.

The fire was reported at about 8:40 p.m. Wednesday when a neighbor noticed smoke coming from the garage and called 911, according to the report.

Pirok's death was caused by thermal burn wounds, authorities reported, and was ruled accidental in manner.

Pirok resided in the garage, which had been converted into living quarters, according to the report.
