The 10 'Dumbest' Towns in California: LIST

RoadSnacks has prepared a new report, which led it to determine the dumbest places to live in CA "based on science and data."

By Brian McCready and Renee Schiavone:

RoadSnacks, which analyzes data for what it calls โ€œinfotainment,โ€ had its work cut out for itself with one of their latest off-beat lists.

Theyโ€™ve compiled a โ€œThese Are the 10 Dumbest Cities in Californiaโ€ list.

In order to create such a list, RoadSnacks examined school completion rates in communities with 5,000 or more people. Specifically, they studied the percentage of high school dropouts between the ages of 16-19, the percentage of the population with less than a high school education and a communityโ€™s graduation rate.

And here is RoadSnacksโ€™ usual disclaimer: โ€We realize that formal education isnโ€™t everything when it comes to being smart, but on the other hand not knowing the difference between theyโ€™re, their, and there is always going to make you look pretty stupid.โ€

Some key findings from their report: Huron was No. 1 because nearly three-quarters of its population doesnโ€™t have a high school degree and the high school dropout rate is 15 percent.

Bellโ€” remember that town where residents discovered they were allegedly being robbed by their city leaders of large amounts of money?โ€” is high on the list, too. More than half of the adults living there donโ€™t have a high school diploma and the dropout rate is 9.6 percent.

The smartest community in California is Hermosa Beach, according to RoadSnacks. Hermosa Beachโ€™s dropout rate is zero percent and only 0.7 percent of adults are considered uneducated.

Rounding up the top five smartest cities are: Moraga, Sausalito, Rancho Palos Verdes and Atherton.

โ€œThree are in the Bay Area, and two are near Los Angeles,โ€ RoadSnacks writes with a tongue-in-cheek vibe. โ€œThat means NoCal is smarter than SoCal. Is that a surprise?โ€

Here is RoadSnacksโ€™ full list, and you can click on the link here to see data that goes along with their ranking:

  1. Huron
  2. Avenal
  3. King City
  4. Greenfield
  5. Mendota
  6. Arvin
  7. Wasco
  8. Lindsay
  9. Hawaiian Gardens
  10. Bell

Obviously, communities toward the end of the list are actually considered very smart such as Palo Alto and Malibu specifically, according to RoadSnacks.
