91 Freeway To Close Friday Night In Corona

The westbound side of the freeway will be be completely shut down.

CORONA, CA โ€” The westbound Riverside (91) Freeway will be completely closed Friday night in Corona, along with a transition bridge at the 91 and Interstate 15, as part ongoing improvement projects, and motorists are advised to map out alternate routes ahead of time.

Beginning at 11 p.m. Friday and continuing until 5 a.m. Saturday, all westbound lanes on the 91 between the Corona (71) Expressway and Highway 241 in Anaheim Hills will be shut down, according to the Riverside County Transportation Commission.

The agency said the closure is required to remove signage connected to a 91 corridor expansion project that's nearing completion.

A four-mile stretch of the freeway will be out of service. Motorists were advised to consider exiting the 91 at the 71 interchange and taking the expressway north to the Pomona (60) Freeway, then turning south on the Orange (57) Freeway, which intersects westbound 91 on the Orange County side.

RCTC officials warned of possible significant travel delays for anyone trying to head west on the 91 through Corona Friday night.

At about 9 p.m. Friday, the southbound I-15 connector to the westbound 91 will be closed, and it will remain unavailable until 5 a.m. Monday, officials said.

The closure is part of the $472 million 15 Express Lanes Project, which began in April 2018. Crews are adding express toll lanes on both sides of I-15 from the Temescal Valley to Eastvale. Connector bridges are also undergoing expansion and upgrades.

Detours will be in place for motorists trying to reach the westbound 91 from southbound I-15 over the weekend.
