91 Freeway Shooter Sought: Riverside County

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA โ€” The California Highway Patrol has received four separate calls about vehicles being shot at on state Route 91 in Riverside County.

The shooter has shattered vehicle windows using a bb or pellet gun, according to the agency.

Three of the shootings occurred Monday morning. The most recent was at 5:31 a.m. as a motorist driving westbound in a middle lane of the freeway, near Lincoln Avenue in Corona, was struck. The right rear window of the motorist's black Ford Excursion was shattered. The driver, who was uninjured, said a white sedan, possibly an Acura, was traveling to his right at the time of the shooting.

Just prior at 5:18 a.m., a motorist in a white Ford F-150 was getting into Fastrak lanes when the truck's right rear window was hit. The driver pulled over in the freeway's westbound center divider, east of Main Street, in Corona. No injuries were reported and the driver could not provide any suspect information.

At 5:02 a.m. Monday, the CHP received another report of โ€œshots firedโ€ in Corona. The motorist was heading westbound in the freeway's #5 lane in a white Ford Transit when bb's or pellets punctured the van's left-side windows. No injuries were reported and no suspect information was available.

Another shooting was reported around 10:38 p.m. May 9 after a male driver told the CHP his white Honda Civic had been targeted. In that case, the motorist was heading east in the freeway's fast lane, between Van Buren Boulevard and Adams Street in Riverside, when his windows were shattered.

"The victim advised he didn't know if there was a car or anything next to him at the time and provided no suspect information or pre-incident indicators as to why it may have happened," the CHP reported.
