Bicyclist Killed In Perris Hit-And-Run, Motorist Tracked Down

PERRIS, CA — A motorist who allegedly struck a bicyclist in Perris and then drove away as the man lay dying has been arrested.

Nathan Craig Rogers, 28, was taken into custody around 11 p.m. Thursday, jail records show.

The male bicyclist, whose identity has not been released, was hit in the area of Goetz and Mapes roads around 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

"The bicyclist suffered major trauma and succumbed to his injuries at the scene," according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, which is investigating the incident.

The driver, later identified as Rogers, fled the scene but was later found and taken to the Perris Sheriff's Station for questioning, according to the sheriff's department.

Following his arrest, Rogers was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside on suspicion of felony fatal hit-and-run and misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence. He was being held in lieu of $75,000 bail and was due to appear in court Wednesday, jail records showed.

"It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision, and the investigation is ongoing," according to the sheriff's department.
