Check of DUI Offender Under Electronic Supervision Finds Pot Plants, Stolen Shotgun

Deputies with the Supervised Electronic Confinement Program find a major marijuana grow during a compliance check in Lake Elsinore.

A Lake Elsinore woman was arrested last week after sheriffโ€™s deputies conducting a compliance check found marijuana plants, 20 pounds of processed marijuana and a stolen shotgun in a home in the 16000 block of McPherson Avenue, according to the Sheriffโ€™s Department.

Simona Gernay, 49, was participating in the sheriffโ€™s Supervised Electronic Confinement Program because of a DUI conviction, according to Cpl. Robert Martinez. Deputies went to the residence on McPherson Avenue on Thursday afternoon to check on Gernay when they found the marijuana grow.

The sheriffโ€™s Special Investigation Bureau responded and took over the investigation, according to Martinez. Gernay was arrested and faces charges of cultivating 200-500 marijuana plants, possession of marijuana for sale, and receiving stolen property, all felonies.

According to jail records, Gernay is being held at the Robert Presley Detention Center on $50,000 bail. Her next court day is schedule for Tuesday.ย
