DUI Checkpoint Announced For Lake Elsinore

Drivers charged with DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license, officials said.

LAKE ELSINORE, CA โ€” Deputies out of the Lake Elsinore Sheriff's Station will be holding a DUI checkpoint in Lake Elsinore Friday night.

The Driving Under the Influence/Driver's License Checkpoint is scheduled from 8 p.m. Friday through 2 a.m. Saturday at an undisclosed location within the city, according to the sheriff's department.

During the checkpoint, deputies will look for signs that drivers are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs (including prescription medications).

"If you plan on drinking or taking medications that may impact your ability to drive safely, plan on staying at home," the sheriff's department said.

"Checkpoint locations are chosen based on a history of DUI crashes and arrests," the department said. "The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired."
