Fire Along 91 Freeway Disrupts Afternoon Traffic

CORONA, CA — A brush fire that broke out Tuesday adjacent to the Riverside (91) Freeway on the west end of Corona burned about three acres before crews got it under control with the help of Cal Fire aircraft.

The non-injury blaze was reported at 2:35 p.m. in the area of the 91 and Corona (71) Expressway, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department. No homes or other structures were damaged.

Multiple engine crews from the county, city of Corona and Anaheim Fire & Rescue deployed to the brusher, which remained situated along the south side of the 91.

Two Cal Fire water-dropping helicopters and an air tanker began making runs on the blaze as crews worked to get ahead of it between the 91 and Prado Road. At 3:50 p.m., the forward rate of spread had been stopped, and the fire was declared fully contained a short time later.

Freeway traffic was disrupted because of the proximity of the flames to the 91, but there was no threat to motorists, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
