โ€œThereโ€™s never been a better time to ride the bus,โ€ said RTA Chair Linda Krupa. โ€œWhether itโ€™s Earth Day, or any other day, riding the bus is a great way to save money, reduce stress and help the environment.โ€
The fi rst Earth Day, on April 22, 1970, brought together 20 million Americans from all walks of life and is widely credited with launching the modern environmental movement. The passage of the landmark Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act and many other ground-breaking environmental laws soon followed. More than one billion people now participate in Earth Day activities each year, making it among the largest civic observances in the world.

โ€œQuality mass transit options are a surefi re way to improve the health and sustainability of any community,โ€ said Dan Abrams, global director of Earth Day for the Earth Day Network. โ€œWe are thrilled to partner once again with the Riverside Transit Agency and their public transportation promotion for Earth Day 2017.โ€
One of the easiest ways to participate in Earth Day is riding the bus. In fact, one of RTAโ€™s large buses is capable of taking more than 40 cars and their harmful emissions off the road. RTAโ€™s buses are fueled by compressed natural gas, which is cleaner burning than other fuels. Choosing public transit over driving a car saves 4.7 billion gallons of gasoline annually, and signifi cantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions.

Riding the bus is not just good for the environment. It is also good for your bank account. Using public transportation is the quickest way to beat high gas prices. According to APTAโ€™s Transit Saving Report, a two- person household can save, on the average, more than $10,174 a year by downsizing to one car.
