Grass Fire Blackens 20 Acres In Perris Area

PERRIS, CA โ€” A grass fire that erupted Thursday on the west end of Perris blackened roughly 20 acres before crews got it under control.

The non-injury blaze was reported at 5:10 p.m. in the area of Decker Road and Markham Street, on the western edge of the city, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

A battalion chief at the scene said flames burned through high grass at a moderate pace, threatening one residence. However, no structures were damaged.

At 6:20 p.m., the blaze was declared 100 percent contained.

Crews were expected to remain at the location, mopping up, until about 10 p.m., according to the fire department.
