Lake Elsinore Sheriff's Station Cracks Down On Off-Roaders

LAKE ELSINORE/WILDOMAR, CA — An eight-hour crackdown on illegal off-roading in Lake Elsinore and Wildomar netted 12 citations over the weekend, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department reported.

Deputies out of the Lake Elsinore station conducted the operation from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. In addition to the citations, a stolen vehicle was recovered and two motorcycles were towed for being unregistered, according to the sheriff's department.

More crackdowns are planned, although the sheriff's department did not provide any dates.

Local ordinances and state law prohibit riding off-road vehicles on public streets, rights-of-ways, county property, and private property (without the written consent of the landowner), according to the department.

For those looking to recreate off-road, the Wildomar Off-Highway Vehicle area is available to riders in the Cleveland National Forest. The 360-acre off-road vehicle park is accessible from South Main Divide Road, 9 miles from the intersection of Ortega Highway and South Main Divide.

Made available for use through an agreement with the U.S. Forest Service and the California State Department of Parks and Recreation, the area contains over 8 miles of trails for all experience levels, or those looking for single-track trails.
