Lake Elsinore in For Some (Very Brief) Weather Relief
Latest rain totals released by National Weather Service.
Parts of Riverside County could see some relief Friday from the series of El Nino-driven storms that brought rain, wind and mountain snow this week, but another low-pressure system is likely to bring more wintry weather over the weekend.
The wet and windy conditions are expected to continue weakening and a brief break from the storms is expected Friday and Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
In a 72-hour period ending at 8 p.m. Thursday, automated gauges collected the following local rain totals greater than three inches (according to preliminary NWS data):
- 4.31 inches of rain in Poppet Flats
- 4.10 inches at the Whitewater Trout Farm in the Coachella Valley
- 3.85 inches in Tick Ridge
- 3.67 inches in Pinyon Pines
- 3.55 inches in Murrieta
- 3.53 inches in Garner Valley
- 3.46 inches in Hemet Valle Vista
- 3.25 inches in Vista Grande
- 3.07 inches in both Potrero Canyon and in the Morongo Valley
Forecasters said some higher mountain areas got more than 2 feet of snow.
Numerous locales elsewhere in the region reported less than 3 inches of rain, including:
- Banning with 2.99 inches
- Beaumont with 2.91 inches
- Temecula with 2.64 inches
- the Riverside Airport with 2.45 inches
- Palm Springs with 2.12 inches
- 1.95 inches in Sky Valley
- Desert Hot Springs with 1.93 inches
- the Thermal Airport with 1.15 inches
- Indio with .86 of an inch
- Coachella with .23 of an inch
The downpours across Riverside County had mostly ended by 9 p.m. Thursday, according to the weather service. Partly cloudy conditions Friday and a chance of showers Saturday are in the forecast amid highs in the 50s in the valleys and along the San Gorgonio Pass, the 40s in the mountains.
No rain is in the forecast Friday or Saturday for the Coachella Valley.
The next in the series of storms is expected to bring mostly light precipitation Saturday night into Sunday, and around an inch of snow in the mountains, forecasters said.
