Mary S. Roberts Pet Adoption Center Surpasses Milestone
The adoption center saved 1,000 animals after its renewed partnership with Riverside County Animal Services.

From Riverside County Department of Animal Services: A nonprofit, pet adoption center marked its 1,000th pet rescue this month after its renewed partnership with Riverside County Animal Services.
The Mary S. Roberts Pet Adoption Center, formerly known as the Riverside Humane Society, renewed its
bond with the county in December 2015. Since that date, the centerโs employees have transported hundreds
of pets from the countyโs Western Riverside County/City Animal Shelter to its location at 6165 Industrial
Ave. in Riverside.
โMary S. Robertsโ leaders committed a much stronger bond than we had seen in past years and the efforts
produced in this new era is absolutely amazing,โ Animal Services Director Robert Miller said. โWe have
many rescue partners, but the Mary S. Roberts Pet Adoption Center team members are regular visitors at our
shelter in Jurupa Valley.โ

Prior to late 2015, Mary S. Roberts would average a handful of pet pickups per month. But under the
direction of new Executive Director Carrie Ridgway, Mary S. Roberts now saves about 75 animals per
month from the Western Riverside County/City Animal Shelter in Jurupa Valley. The 1,000-pet plateau
happened earlier this month (June 2017). But that number is now at 1,044 and counting.
โThis partnership is a great one for the community,โ Miller said. โOf course, our former, four-legged
residents are the true winners, thanks to Mary S. Roberts.โ

Director Carrie Ridgway of the Mary S. Roberts Pet Adoption Center takes the role of saving lives seriously
and spearheaded the partnership between the nonprofit organization and the county shelter.
โItโs amazing to see what two agencies can do when they work together โ putting animals first,โ Ridgway
said. โRiverside County Department of Animal Services has welcomed us. We are excited to see what is on
the horizon for homeless pets in our community.โ

To help put a fuzzy face on some of the recent Mary S. Roberts Pet Adoption Center stories, here are five Happy Tales in 2017:
Izzy:

A Riverside County Animal Services officer scooped up the pretty Izzy from a Riverside neighborhood
on Feb. 23. The mostly black, domestic short-haired cat was rescued by Mary S. Roberts on May 23 and actually came with three kittens. The kittens have since been adopted, but Mary S. Roberts is still in search of an adopter for the 3-year-old Izzy.
Miss Piggy:

This 2-year-old, gray-coated pit bull was found in the field by a city of Colton animal control officer on May 16. A week later Mary S. Robertsโ crew members saved the sweet gal and sheโs since been adopted.
Peggy:

How could you go wrong with a Chihuahua with big ears? Mary S. Roberts transported the dog to their facility on June 12, almost a month after the small pooch was found in the Homeland area. Mary S. Roberts is still seeking a home for this charming pooch.
Teddy:

Hard to believe this handsome poodle mix didnโt get adopted right away from the county shelter. He came into the shelter by way of one of the city of Fontanaโs animal control officers. The poor guy was abandoned. But Mary S. Robertsโ staff members found a home fairly quick for Teddy.
Theo:

This old fella was one of the early saves this year for Mary S. Roberts. The dog came into the countyโs shelter in Jurupa Valley on Oct. 30 after a Fontana animal control officer found him. Mary S. Roberts rescued the 9-year-old pit bull on Jan. 11 and happily found a forever home for him.
