LAKE ELSINORE, CA โ€” A 7-Eleven store and gas station, a McDonald's drive-thru restaurant, a storage facility, and a self-serve carwash are future tenants of a new commercial center approved to be built at Riverside Drive and Lincoln Street in Lake Elsinore.

The 51,000-square-foot project on 6.36 acres received unanimous approval from the Lake Elsinore City Council on April 13.

"This is a long-time coming," Lake Elsinore Valley Chamber of Commerce President Kim Cousins told the council. The Riverside Drive/Lincoln Street Commercial Center will bring improvement to Riverside Drive and help support the nearby Launch Pointe Recreation Destination and RV Park, according to Cousins.

The new project, which had to undergo environmental review, also received unanimous approval last month from the Lake Elsinore Planning Commission.

A groundbreaking date for the new center was not announced during the April 13 City Council meeting.

Project applicants are Ilan Golcheh of Golcheh Group and Denise Williams of Tri Pointe Homes, according to city documents.

In order to move forward, the proposal required a zoning change at the site from residential mixed-use to general commercial use. To compensate for the loss of residential zoning, city council members unanimously approved changing the zoning on a 9.02 parcel of land off Railroad Canyon Road and Tassel Way in Canyon Hills from neighborhood commercial to multifamily residential.
