OBIT: Anthony Borrego, Lake Elsinore Resident, O.C. Businessman

Borrego died in an accident in Lake Elisinore. Services are scheduled for Saturday.

Anthony Borrego was a fixture in Rancho Santa Margarita, even though a year ago, he moved to Lake Elsinore.

For 11 years, he worked part time at Trader’s Joe. The rest of the day, he worked at a business he owned, making “house calls” for auto repairs.

On Saturday, he was a passenger in a car driving in Lake Elsinore whose driver lost control, running into a stop sign and killing Borrego. Riverside County Sheriff’s officials say alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

Borrego was 40.

“Anthony was a terrific guy,” said Janet Whitcomb, who wrote a column about him in the Orange County Register in 2008. ”Very outgoing, friendly, and always ready to be a good Samaritan. That’s the way we met, and we kept in touch after that. He was also ambitious, starting his own business, but practical as well (especially after marrying and having a family), hence his job at Trader Joes.”

Services are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Saturday at 30462 Via Con Dios, Rancho Santa Margarita and are open to all.
