Popular Frontage Road To Partially Close In Temescal Valley

TEMESCAL VALLEY, CA — A segment of a heavily used freeway frontage road in the Temescal Valley will be shut down for nearly three weeks in July while crews construct a flood control culvert, Riverside County officials announced Tuesday.

According to the Department of Transportation, a nearly quarter-mile portion of Temescal Canyon Road between Trilogy Parkway to the north and Glen Ivy Road to the south will be closed from 6 a.m. on July 8 to 10 p.m. on July 26.

The closure will require motorists to use alternate corridors or stay on Interstate 15 to go north or south through the area, transportation officials said.

When Interstate 15 backs up, commuters often divert onto Temescal Canyon to circumnavigate the blockages. The Temescal Valley lies about halfway between Corona and Lake Elsinore.

Temescal Canyon Road, a two-lane road, was frequently swamped with water during last winter's storms.

By installing a culvert that runs beneath the road, overflows will be channeled away from traffic lanes, officials said.

County officials did not immediately disclose the cost of the infrastructure project.
