LAKE MATHEWS, CA โ€” A prescribed fire Tuesday near Lake Mathews is expected to burn 106 acres, and nearby communities may see smoke.

Burning operations by Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department are expected between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., according to the agency.

The burn is supposed to rehabilitate habitat for the burrowing owl and kangaroo rat, and kill off invasive non-native grasses and weeds, the agency reported.
