Rep. Calvert Projected Winner In 42nd Congressional District: AP

CORONA, CA — Republican Ken Calvert has won reelection to the U.S. House of Representatives in California’s 42nd Congressional District, the Associated Press projected Monday night.

Calvert has garnered 130,009 votes compared to 102,136 ballots cast for Democratic opponent William "Liam" O'Mara.

The 42nd Congressional District includes the cities of cities of Eastvale, Norco, Corona, Lake Elsinore, Menifee, Wildomar, Murrieta, and portions of Temecula.

Approximately 215,000 vote-by-mail and 25,000 provisional ballots must still be processed in Riverside County. Ballots that are postmarked on or before Election Day also remain to be counted.

Calvert is a career politician who was first elected to the house in the early 1990s.

According to his campaign website and statements, Calvert supports tax cuts, job growth, greater border security and preventing "endless amnesties" for undocumented immigrants, infrastructure spending, and national security spending. He's shown opposition to efforts that address climate change. He has also opposed Obamacare, same-sex marriage, gun safety legislation, and federal funding for abortion.

Another Southwest Riverside candidate who the Associated Press projected as a winner is former California Republican U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa in the 50th Congressional District, which includes part of Temecula. A former nine-term congressman from North County San Diego and Donald Trump supporter, Issa was declared the projected winner Saturday over Democrat Ammar Campa-Najjar.
