Riverside Barista Refuses To Serve To Man Bullying Muslim Woman

RIVERSIDE, CA -- A Riverside barista recently refused to service a customer after he was seen bullying a woman wearing a hijab, a head covering worn by Muslim women. In a video posted Monday to YouTube, the man says to the woman "Is this Halloween or something?" while waiting in line to order at Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf in the Riverside Plaza, according to media reports.

The woman responds, "Why you would say that?"

"Why wouldn't I? Because I want to," the man replies.

"What's wrong with me?" the woman says.

"I don't like your religion. I don't want to be killed by you," the man tells her.

"Are you scared of me? Have you read the Koran? If you're a Christian, let's talk about your bible. You are committing hate speech," the woman replies.

Another man is then heard screaming in the background, "Get out of here, you racist."

When the man finally reaches the register to place his order, a barista declines to serve him. The man requests for the manager, to which the barista responds "I'm a supervisor on duty."

When asked why she is refusing service to him, the barista replies, "because he is disrupting a public place and being very racist."

In a statement, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf said its "fully committed to ensuring the wellness and safety of its customers, team members and business."

"We have a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to discrimination of any kind, and have the right to refuse service to any person who makes customers or team members feel endangered in any way," the statement read.

The video had more than 12,000 views within 24 hours of it being posted to YouTube.
