Riverside County Double-Murderer Dies On Death Row

SAN QUENTIN, CA โ A man convicted of two separate deadly shootings in Riverside County more than 25 years ago died on San Quentin's death row, prison officials announced Thursday.
Lumord Johnson, 56, was found unresponsive in his cell at 6:30 a.m. Thursday and was pronounced dead less than a half-hour later, according to a statement from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
The Marin County Coronerโs Office will determine Johnsonโs cause of death, the state agency reported.

Johnson was admitted to death row on April 15, 2002, according to the CDRC.
He was convicted of second-degree murder in the 1994 killing of Camerina Lopez, 34, in the Riverside neighborhood of Casa Blanca. Lopez tried to break up a fight between her boyfriend and Johnson when the defendant blasted her with a shotgun shell intended for the man, according to court documents.

The following year, Johnson killed Martin Campos, 33, in a Mead Valley drug deal gone bad. For that crime, he was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to death.
Johnson had a long history of criminal behavior. The night before the Campos killing, the defendant allegedly said, killing someone โcomes easy," according to the court documents.
Johnson's death follows news last week that another Riverside County killer condemned to die was dead. San Quentin inmate Johnny Mungia, 64, died March 16 at an outside hospital, the CDCR reported.
There are currently 704 people on Californiaโs death row, according to the CDCR.
