SWR DUI Checkpoint Results Released

Riverside County sheriff's deputies held the operation over the weekend, screening more than 1,200 motorists.

SOUTHWEST RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA โ€” Riverside County sheriff's deputies held a DUI/driver's license checkpoint over the weekend, arresting a total of nine people in the process in Southwest Riverside County, officials announced Monday.

The six-hour operation was held Saturday beginning at 8 p.m. by the Temecula Police Department, according to sheriff's Sgt. Raemie Wood. It was located at Old Town Front Street and Moreno Road.

Police screened 1,251 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint, Wood said. Of those, 26 were screened again, in a secondary stop.

A dozen field sobriety tests were given โ€” ultimately resulting in the arrest of two people on suspicion of DUI, the sergeant said. Another seven drivers were cited/arrested for driving without a proper license. Two vehicles were towed away from the scene.

What's more, one citation was issued for an unspecified vehicle code violation and one misdemeanor arrest warrant was served, according to Wood.

In recent years, California has seen an increase in drug-impaired driving crashes, according to the department.

Those arrested for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol can spend time in jail and pay up to $13,500, including fines, fees, classes, license suspensions and other expenses.

The operation was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
