Wildomar DUI Checkpoint Results

WILDOMAR, CA — Deputies out of the Lake Elsinore Sheriff's Station held a DUI checkpoint in Wildomar Friday night, and 30 citations for various offenses were written.
The Driving Under the Influence/Driver's License Checkpoint was scheduled from 8 p.m. Friday through 2 a.m. Saturday at Clinton Keith and Iodine Springs roads, according to the sheriff's department.
During the checkpoint, deputies were looking for drivers that were under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs (including prescription medications).

Among the 30 citations issued during the six-hour period were five DUI, seven unlicensed drivers, and four suspended license. Four misdemeanor warrants were served, and 14 vehicles were towed, according to the sheriff's department.
A total of 534 vehicles were screened, the department reported.

Drivers charged with DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license, according to the department.
"Checkpoint locations are chosen based on a history of DUI crashes and arrests," the department said. "The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired."
