4 O.C. Families To Open Next Sgt. Pepperoni’s Pizza In Irvine

With locales in Aliso Viejo & Newport Beach, Sgt. Pepps stands as Orange County fave for more than four decades with New York-style pizzas.

ORANGE COUNTY, CA — Sgt. Pepperoni’s Pizza Store, a longstanding, popular Orange County pizzeria, announced today that its next and third location will open in May in Irvine’s Campus Plaza.

Operated by four O.C. families, "Sgt. Pepps," known for its nod to The Beatles and its New York-style pies with a California twist, currently has restaurants in Aliso Viejo and Newport Beach, along with a food truck for catering and events.

"Cool, flavor profiles" are in the works for the new site's offerings, said Stan Frazier, one of the Sgt. Pepperoni partners. “We’re looking forward to sharing our signature pies and unveiling new concepts in the Irvine community,” he said.

The four Orange County couples, Ellen and Rob Dodman, Jennifer and Stan Frazier, Grace and Andy Hong and Erica and Jeff Roberts, met and bonded over their children's schools, sports and activities before becoming pizza partners. In 2013, the team bought the business, originally launched in 1976 in Newport Beach, from its founders. In 2020, the pizzeria opened its second restaurant in the Aliso Viejo Town Center.

In its newest location in Irvine, along with seasonal specials, the site will carry the eatery's standard menu of such made-fresh, hand-crafted pizzas as the "Hawaii Five-O," with pepperoni, pineapple, sweet New York ricotta, and spicy pickled jalapeno, the "Meatball Ricotta," crafted with "Stan’s meatballs," ricotta, mozzarella and marinara, and "Grandma's Pie," a square version featuring mozzarella, marinara and fresh basil.

Also on menus: sandwiches; wings; desserts; and pizza-dough "pinwheels." The seasonal pizza offering this month from Sgt. Pepps combines shaved ham, fontina cheese, asparagus, shallots, pimentos, garlic and parmesan cheese.

The new Irvine restaurant, at 4533 Campus Drive, will include a 2,500-square-foot dining room, plus an outdoor patio, free WiFi and an interior design paying homage to The Beatles — inspiration from the band's Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album.

The now-growing Sgt. Pepperoni chain also is a go-to destination for events for local schools, sports teams and charities, along with its commitment to fundraising efforts for Julian’s LEGO Corner at CHOC Children’s Hospital. In keeping with that goal, the restaurant donates all proceeds from its dessert, Lauren’s Cookie, to Julian’s LEGO Corner, the company said.
