Coyote Suspected in Spate of Human Attacks Caught and Killed

State-hired trappers say they have captured and killed the coyote responsible for at least three-biting incidents.

State-hired professional trappers caught and euthanized a coyote linked to three biting incidents between May and October in the Portola Springs neighborhood near Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park.

It’s possible the coyote was also responsible for another scratch and two other biting incidents, but officials could not confirm that, said Farrah Emami of the Irvine Police Department.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife handled the trapping and euthanizing of the coyote, Emami said.

The community has been torn between animal lovers who did not want to see the coyote euthanized and other residents who feared for their safety, Emami said.
