A deputy on his way to work in early January, before 5 a.m., spotted a traffic collision at El Toro Road and Portola Parkway. When he stopped to help, Williams refused to remain on the scene or exchange information with the other driver. When the deputy identified himself and advised him he had to remain on scene, deputies said.

Williams, who was still in his vehicle, allegedly struck the deputy in the head multiple times -- with his keys in his hand, deputies said. He then drove off but was caught a short distance away, deputies said.
