El Toro High School Prepares For Graduation Events
Graduation for high school classes of 2020 remains on the schedule, but will they change?
LAKE FOREST, CA — This week, Saddleback Valley Unified School District announced that graduation ceremonies would remain on target, amid the reopening of Orange County during the coronavirus pandemic.
According to Superintendent Crystal Turner, all Saddleback Valley High School graduation ceremonies for the high school classes of 2020 are still scheduled for June 11th, however, the school is preparing contingency plans, should they be necessary.
Graduation ceremonies for El Toro, Laguna Hills, Mission Viejo, Trabuco Hills, and the Virtual Academy High Schools will either take place on June 11 or July 31, depending on when the restriction on mass gatherings is lifted, Turner wrote in a letter to parents.

"If the ceremonies are rescheduled to July 31st, all high schools will still recognize their graduates in an alternative fashion on June 11th," she said.
The district and school site administration have been working closely, according to Turner. They are each finalizing plans on what the alternative celebration will entail, if necessary.

One sidenote was offered by Turner.
"If by July 15th the restriction on mass gatherings has not been lifted, the July 31st ceremony will be canceled," she said.
Each family should look to their high school for new developments.
Cap and Gown Pickup With Pomp & Circumstance:
Graduating seniors are beginning to pick up their caps and gowns this week, at some sites.
Each school has ensured that the pick up process will remain celebratory for the seniors.
"Schools are also maintaining social distancing protocols for the pick-ups," Turner advised.
Dates vary by site and details are being shared directly from school sites to families.
"All comprehensive high schools have also made congratulatory senior yard signs available to the class of 2020 and it is exciting to see them placed around our community in honor of our seniors!" she said.
Welcome back days for students is tentatively scheduled for August 17, according to Saddleback Valley Unified School District.
