Empty High School Threat Scrambles Orange County Officers Again

IRVINE, CA — For the third time in less than a week, an Orange County high school Monday -- this time in Anaheim -- was a target of bogus threats, police said.

The latest victim of a hoax was Canyon High School in Anaheim, according to Kristina Hamm of Anaheim police.

An emailed threat was sent just before midnight Sunday, Hamm said. The threat did not come from the person associated with the email address so investigators suspect the address was hacked, Hamm said.

No evacuations or lockdowns were necessary, but Anaheim police "as a precautionary measure" will continue a beefed-up presence around the school for the rest of the day.

On Friday, a 15-year-old boy used social media to threaten violence at Aliso Niguel High School, where he is enrolled as a student, according to Orange County sheriff's Lt. Lane Lagaret. Deputies found the teen off campus and he was sent home to his parents, Lagaret said.

On Thursday, Irvine police received a threat directed at Northwood High School that led to a lockdown there and at a nearby elementary school.

Police suspect that threat was a hoax and is "linked to others received across the nation," according to Kim Mohr of the Irvine Police Department.

Irvine police were working with the FBI to track down suspects, Mohr said.
