Jewelry Box Delivers For South County Outreach
Annual "Batteries for Birds" raises money to purchase holiday turkeys and other foods for those in need of helping hand in Lake Forest and the surrounding area.

Helping make Christmas a bit easier this season, the Jewelry Box in Lake Forest recently presented a check to South County Outreach for more than two-thousand dollars.Â
Co-owners Jack Levenson and Christine Anzell gave a check for $2,100 to Sinae Bang, special events and marketing manager for the Lake Forest charity on Dec. 17. The total exceeded last year's annual gift and this year's goal, Levenson said.Â
The donation was raised through the jewelry store's "Batteries for Birds" promotion during which the business donates all revenue from watch batteries installed over a four-week period. This year year, it represented 225 battery purchases.Â
The money was earmarked to purchase holiday turkeys and other foods and supplies for the clients of the Outreach.
Levenson says The Jewelry Box supports South County Outreach throughout the year with Mother's Day and Back-to-School promotions as well as offering daily discounts on jewelry repairs in exchange for non-perishable food donations.
"We have been doing this for five years and have collected several tons of food during that period," said.
