Major League Baseball Covid19 Opening Day Preview Lake Forest Ca

Opening Day is almost here and there are two games slated to be played and both games are going to be exciting. Yankees/Nationals at 4 p.m.

NYY/WSH
The reigning MLB champions open their season at home against the Yankees and both teams are returning the majority of their rosters from last year.

Each team has players that are day-to-day that includes Yankees second baseman DJ LeMahieu, who tested positive for COVID-19 on July 4, and pitcher Masahiro Tanaka who took a line drive to the head by Giancarlo Stanton during a simulated game. The Nationals have pitchers Wander Suero and Roenis Elias on the 10-day IL while center fielder Victor Robles is day-to-day.

Gerrit Cole and Max Scherzer are set to be on the mound for their respective teams and though the rest of the opening day roster hasn’t been announced yet, I would take the Nationals over the Yankees.

The Nationals are going to be coming out of the gate strong as they are out to defend their title and even though they are missing a few members of last year's team (three members opted out this season), their defense will be behind Scherzer and work to start this new and shortened season on a high note.

The Dodgers start their opening series at home against the Giants, their National League rivals.

Johnny Cueto will start on the mound for the Giants and Clayton Kershaw will start for the Dodgers. Kershaw finished last season 16-5 while Cueto was 1-2 last season in his four starts after having Tommy John surgery back in 2018.

Second baseman Max Muncy is day-to-day while catcher Keibert Ruiz is on the 10-day IL for the Dodgers while the Giants have right fielder Hunter Pence, third baseman Evan Longoria, center fielder Heliot Ramos, and pitcher Trevor Cahill listed as day-to-day with pitcher Jarlin Garcia on the 10-day IL

I would take the Dodgers over the Giants for this game as the Giants are missing some of their starters due to injury and even though it has been two years since Cueto had his surgery, I feel as if it is unknown how he will fare in this game after only seeing 16 innings last year.
