Suspicious Package On I-5 Lake Forest Creates Traffic Nightmare

CHP posted a SIGALERT on the I-5 Northbound at El Toro Road offramp, Wednesday, due to a suspicious item.

LAKE FOREST, CA — California Highway Patrol reported a SIGALERT on the I-5 Northbound at El Toro Road offramp, Wednesday.

At around 9:30 a.m. a suspicious package was reported "with a few concerning words regarding law enforcement," Officer Rafael Reynoso told Patch.

A SIG alert was reported, and the northbound 5 freeway was shut down, as were all roads at the end of the off-ramp, he said.

OCSD Lake Forest assisted with the road closures, and in the interest of public safety, the OCSD bomb squad responded to the scene.

"Upon further investigation, the bomb squad determined the item was rendered safe," Reynoso said.
