Authorities ID Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Car on El Cajon Boulevard
The 70-year-old man died at a hospital shortly after the collision Tuesday, according to La Mesa police.
LA MESA, CA: Authorities have publicly identified a 70-year-old man who was fatally struck by a car while attempting to cross a busy street in La Mesa.
David Ben Gonzalez of La Mesa was taken to a hospital after he was hit by an eastbound Toyota Prius outside a crosswalk on El Cajon Boulevard near Williams Avenue around 8:20 p.m. Tuesday but died while undergoing surgery, according to La Mesa police and the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.
The driver of the Prius remained at the scene and was not suspected of drunken driving. La Mesa police Lt. Greg Runge said the crash was "not being treated as a criminal investigation at this time."
